The Tyrol region's stunning scenery, waterfalls and majestic snow-capped peaks are legendary. The area offers a wide variety of attractions to discover and our itinerary features a journey on the oldest cog railway in Europe, a relaxing lake cruise and free time in the Tyrolean capital of Innsbruck.
Day 1 We travel to Folkstone for our crossing to Calais by Eurotunnel. We then continue our journey to Saarbrucken for our overnight stay.
Day 2 Today we arrive at our hotel in Mayrhofen, nestled between the Penken and Ahorn mountains of the Tyrolean region, and settle in prior to dinner this evening.
Day 3 Today we travel to Jenbach, from where we join the original Lake Achen cog railway for the journey up to Seespitz. This railway dates back to 1889 and the steam engines are some of the oldest in the world. The train winds its way up above the Inn Valley to its destination, the largest Alpine lake in the Tyrol, Lake Achen.
After a short opportunity for a photo stop, we join a short boat cruise along the beautiful shores from Seespitz to Pertisau. Once back on dry land, we can enjoy free time in the lakeside resort of Pertisau where there are several cafes in which to have lunch.
On our return journey, we stop at the delightful town of Rattenberg, famous for its glass and crystal workshops.
Day 4 We will today visit the Tyrolean capital city of Innsbruck, surrounded by the jagged rock spires of the Nordkette range. We have time at leisure to explore the medieval old town, Tyrolean Folk Art Museum and Hofburg Imperial Palace (entrances included).
Day 5 Today we spend the day relaxing in our beautiful resort, enjoying the stunning surroundings framed by the majestic Zillertaler Alps.
Day 6 This morning, we will travel to the Krimml Waterfalls and marvel at this impressive natural spectacle. The falls are Europe's highest with a drop of 380 metres and the fifth largest waterfalls in the world.
Our journey then continues to the pretty town of Zell am See, nestled on the shores of lovely Lake Zell. Here we will enjoy a picturesque circular boat cruise and marvel at the beautiful scenery before wandering through the medieval centre and along the lake shores.
Day 7-8 Today we depart for the homeward journey via Germany for an overnight stop in Saarbrucken before continuing the next day to Calais for our Eurotunnel crossing back to the UK.
